LonelyIslandThe Lonely Island rank right up there with The Whitest Kids U’ Know as one of my favorite comedy groups ever.  That said, once you take the visual aspect away from the songs, they lose a lot of their punch and humor; you realize just how badly written they are.  At times TLI really harness the sound of The Beastie Boys – at the end though, this album is just like most other bad rap albums:  poorly written, but well-produced.

frank-caliendo1I was actually supposed to be at the very show where this album was recorded!  I wasn’t, though.  (Long story.)  That said, if you’ve seen any of Frank Caliendo’s stand-up specials, or his godawful sketch show “Frank TV”, then you’ve heard every single thing that’s on this album.  Really Frank, we get that you’re the “impersonation guy” – and yeah, you’re really good at it.  Now come up with some new material… please.

1/30/09 – Do You Believe In Gosh?

mitchhedbergIt’s so sad that Mitch Hedberg is gone.  Some people don’t get his style, but I love it – and this album is really Mitch at his best.  The material is killer, and something I liked about this album compared to his last is that you got to hear how he deals with an unruly heckler (and it’s hilarious).  Arguably the best album from a comic who died before his time – I wish I’d gotten to see him live even once.
